Kent Municipal Court Marriage Records

The Portage County Probate Court, a division of the Portage County Court of Common Pleas, has countywide jurisdiction to issue marriage licenses per O.R.C. § 3101.051 and maintains marriage records. Marriage records establish the marital union between two people. These documents are presumed public under the Rules of Superintendence for the Courts of Ohio.

There are several options available to requesters seeking details of a marriage recorded by the Portage County Probate Court. Researchers may find some marriage records through the court's online case management system. One can also send a request by mail to the Probate Court or stop by the courthouse. Records of marriage available at the Probate Court date back to 1808.

The details needed to conduct a marriage record search depend on the year the marriage took place. For instance, to inquire about marriage records from 1808 onward, inquirers will need to provide the husband's last name and the wife's maiden name. For marriages before 1898, inquirers can search using the date of the ceremony and, in some cases, the couple's residence.
